STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX – HB 2214, legislation sponsored by Representative Vince Leach (R-11) to hasten the amortization of costs to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), was signed into law today by Governor Ducey.
Under previous law, businesses had to amortize ADA compliance costs over 39 years. HB 2214 allows businesses to amortize those costs in the year they incur them.
“Small businesses shouldn’t have to choose between costly repairs or costly lawsuits,” said Representative Leach. “HB 2214 will help bring businesses into compliance with the ADA by lessening the cost of doing so.”
“I thank the stakeholders I worked with to craft this legislation, particularly the National Federation of Independent Businesses and the Arizona Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for helping put together a bill that’s a win-win for both the business and disability communities.”
The House of Representatives passed HB 2214 in February by a vote of 58-1, and the Senate passed it unanimously last week.
