STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX – Representative Vince Leach (R-11) today thanked Governor Doug Ducey for signing HB 2153 into law.
HB 2153 protects the privacy of donors by prohibiting cities and counties from requiring certain nonprofit entities to register as political action committees or forcing the disclosure of information identifying donors. The new law does not supersede federal laws governing the tax-exempt status of nonprofit entities.
“The First Amendment affords all Americans, including those that donate to charities, the right to support or oppose political issues without intimidation from the government,” said Representative Leach. “Charitable organizations shouldn’t have the privacy of their donors jeopardized simply because they weigh in on a political issue that may affect them.”
“I’m grateful to my colleagues for their hard work getting HB 2153 through the Legislature and to Governor Ducey for recognizing its importance by signing it into law.”
